What is a Grid Square?

On the 1:25 000 scale map it is a 4cm square on the map representing a one kilometre square  of Norfolk

The whole map covers an area of 28 x 44 kilometres split into two - North sheet on the front and South sheet on the back

A Grid Square reference identifies an unique square on the map

The reference is a 4 digit number, the first 2 digits refer to the blue number along the bottom and top of the map (Eastings) to the left of the sqare, the second 2 digits refer to the blue number along the left and right edges of the map (Northings) below the required square

The blue numbers are repeated across the map every 10 kilometres
