Start.

Whitlingham Country Park Visitor Centre,
Whitlingham Lane,
Norwich,   NR 14 8TR.

The Country Park is featured on brown Tourist Information signs from the A47 Norwich southern by-pass. Turn towards the city on the A146 and at the inner ring road turn toward Trowse. At the County Hall roundabout (imposing building on a hill near the road) turn south and follow our arrows. Whitlingham Lane is over the bridge on the left. Follow it to the Visitor Centre. We will use the car park after the building.

You do not need to pay for parking.

We will be there from 8.30 but you do not need to. 9.15 should be early enough.

Park and sign on (important) and we will give you the map and paperwork you will require to work out where you would like to go.

You will have time to work out your route before you leave which will not be before 10.00. If you are not familiar with maps and route finding we are there to help so don’t think we are trying to catch you out. We are not and we want you to enjoy the day.

You must report to the finish by the time we stipulate because we will penalise late finishers by docking points! The cafeteria closes at 4.30 so you will have plenty of time for a relax and chat after you finish.

Equipment.

You might find it useful to bring a piece of cardboard about 18 inches square and fairly stiff (such as the side of a carton) on which to support the map on the navigators lap. Don’t use anything stronger in case you have to stop in a hurry.

A couple of pencils (softish such as 2B) and a rubber will be handy and better than a pen for map marking.

A carrier-sized bag as you would get from a supermarket may be useful. As a tie breaker we are going to ask you to collect some bits and pieces en route and you may want to put them in something.

Please ring us if you are having difficulty getting to the start or problems arise during the day. Please tell us also if you have to retire from the event. There is no course closing car because there is no set route so we won’t be able to sweep the route at the end.

Finally.

Enjoy the day. Please remember that this will probably be one of the first warm days this year and there may be a lot of traffic about on the lanes. Do be careful and be prepared to have to think for some of the other drivers too.
